The neck supports the full weight of the head and allows it to move in almost every direction. It houses the spinal cord and the nerve roots that supply sensation and strength to the arms and hands. When something goes wrong in the neck, the effects can be felt far beyond just the neck itself.
Neck pain is extremely common. It can come from muscle tension and poor posture, disc problems between the vertebrae, facet joint irritation, nerve compression, or injury from contact sport or accidents. The right treatment depends entirely on identifying the actual cause.
Many people live with neck pain for months or years because they assume it is something they have to manage rather than something that can be properly treated. That is not true. Most neck pain responds very well to physiotherapy when the correct diagnosis is made and the right programme is followed.
At H.O.M.E, House of Movement & Excellence in Saket, South Delhi, we take neck pain seriously. A thorough assessment identifies exactly what is causing your pain and guides a rehabilitation programme that addresses the cause, not just the symptoms.
Neck pain affects wrestlers, boxers, rugby players, and contact sport athletes as well as office workers, students, drivers, and anyone who spends long hours looking at a screen or in a fixed position. It is one of the most common conditions we treat at H.O.M.E and it affects people from every background and every walk of life.
Signs your neck needs attention.
Pain and stiffness in the neck
Neck pain that makes it difficult to turn your head fully, look over your shoulder, or look up and down. Stiffness that is worse in the morning or after sitting for long periods. Pain that has been present for more than two weeks.
Pain or numbness into the arm
Pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness that travels from the neck into the shoulder, arm, or fingers. This is a sign of nerve involvement and needs proper clinical assessment to identify the source and the right treatment.
Headaches from the neck
Headaches that start at the base of the skull and spread forward over the head or behind the eyes. Cervicogenic headaches come from the joints and muscles of the upper neck and respond well to physiotherapy treatment.
Pain after an injury or accident
Neck pain that started after a sporting injury, a fall, or a road accident. Even if the pain seemed mild at first, neck injuries after trauma need proper assessment to rule out serious structural problems and to prevent chronic pain from developing.

Common questions about neck pain.
I am not an athlete. Can H.O.M.E help me?
Yes. The majority of our neck pain patients are non-athletes. Office workers, students, and people with desk-based jobs are among the most common groups we treat for neck pain. Your goals matter to us regardless of your background or activity level.
My neck pain comes and goes. Should I still get it assessed?
Yes. Neck pain that comes and goes is telling you that something is not right. Getting it assessed when it is manageable is far better than waiting until it becomes severe. Identifying the cause early prevents it from becoming a long-term chronic problem.
I have been told I have a disc problem in my neck. Does that mean surgery?
Not usually. Most cervical disc problems respond well to physiotherapy without surgery. Even disc herniations with nerve symptoms often improve significantly with conservative management. A proper assessment tells you what your disc findings actually mean for your situation.
Can physiotherapy help with headaches caused by my neck?
Yes. Cervicogenic headaches that come from the neck respond very well to physiotherapy. Treatment of the joints and muscles of the upper neck combined with specific exercises can significantly reduce or eliminate this type of headache.
How long does neck pain rehabilitation take?
Acute neck pain often improves significantly within 4 to 6 weeks of proper treatment. Chronic neck pain that has been present for months or years takes longer but still responds well to a structured rehabilitation programme. A realistic timeline is given at your first assessment.
